Dosing and filling
There is a difference between dosing and filling. Filling is the activity to fill a packaging unit with a ready-made product. Dosing we see as an activity to add components within a process (leading at some point to a ready product).
Throughout the various industries, there is a lot of expertise available about how and when to dose the various components needed for a certain recipe. There used to be a lot of handwork in dosing ingredients, but as the demands on the continuity, accuracy, traceability and reliability of products and processes grow each day, more automation is required.
But other factors may play an important role as well. There is a lot of focus on health and safety today and some dosing processes can be tricky in this respect (heavy bags, toxic ingredients, explosion hazard). Sometime the logistic impact is the major factor. Not always it is easy to modify the recipe easily. The sequence of the dosing part effects the logistics of the various ingredients as well.
In optimizing the dosing processes, Gronfa may play a useful part as well. Like Gronfa filling machines, Gronfa dosing systems are always custom-made as well. But the degree of standardization is for the filling machines much higher.
Gronfa has standardized (yet always customer-configured) filling equipment for the following typical containers and packings:
- bottles up to 1 litre
- buckets up to 20 litres
- cans up to 20 litres
- drums and pails up to 200 litres
- IBC’s and totes up to to 1000 litres
Dosing and filling equipment for various applications.
Dispensing of additives can be done in various ways. It can vary from manual adding in a manhole of a tank to fully automatic in an continuous process. Over the years Gronfa has successfully installed many custom-made dosing systems, both volumetric as well as gravimetric.
Gronfa also produces semi-automatic filling installations for containers from 0,1 – 1000 litres. The key focus is on filling equipment for cans, drums and IBC’s.
